Background : Since May 2024, the Government of Canada has required all high-profit companies to report on their supply chain transparency.
As you know, Marigold is an independent micro-enterprise that holds the values of eco-responsibility and social responsibility at heart.
It is easy for us to issue a report even if it is not required by the Government of Canada.
Here is our report on our eco-responsible practices and the transparency of our supply chain.

Transparency in our supply chain:

Eco-responsibility

When sourcing raw materials, Marigold prioritizes OEKO-TEX® certified fabrics and other organic materials to ensure the absence of harmful substances and promote sustainable fashion. Sourcing is done as close to Montreal as possible, thus favoring local producers and reducing the carbon footprint. This approach allows Marigold to maintain its eco-responsible standards while supporting the regional economy.

Social responsibility

We are committed to responsible sourcing by doing the following:

  • Montreal-Knitted Fabric: Marigold's Montreal-knitted fabrics are the result of a meticulous process that begins with the design of original patterns. These patterns are then knitted locally, ensuring rigorous quality control and a reduced carbon footprint. By knitting their own fabrics, Marigold guarantees design exclusivity and increased sustainability, while supporting local artisans and the region's economy.
  • Fabric from outside the country: We are firmly committed to promoting ethical labor practices. That's why we require our fabric suppliers located outside of Canada to obtain certification proving the absence of forced labor.

Transparency in our production:

Eco-responsibility

We guarantee our clothing for life and invite our customers to our workshop-boutique on Wellington Street in Verdun to repair pieces from old collections, thus ensuring their durability.
We adopt a zero-waste policy in our production by recycling fabric scraps, which we redistribute to our customers, use for school projects, or transform into accessories, such as hair scrunchies.
Our main source of electricity comes from Hydro-Québec, one of the most eco-responsible energy sources.
Our subcontractors are located within a 13 km radius of Montreal, allowing us to maintain a local and lean supply chain.
Some of our fabrics are OEKO-TEX® certified, guaranteeing that they are free from harmful substances. This certification underlines our commitment to providing safe and environmentally friendly products.

Social responsibility

Logically, we produce in Montreal so there is no forced labor.

We have adopted a pricing transparency policy for our products by including the cost of raw materials, manufacturing, and operating expenses on our labels. We also disclose the subcontractors who participate in the design of our clothing.

At our workshop-boutique, we adopt sustainable practices on a daily basis:

    Eco-responsibility

We favor the use of reusable office supplies.
For our business trips, we opt for electric scooters rather than cars.
Marilyne uses a hybrid car for her visits to subcontractors, who are all based in Montreal.
We make sure to turn off all lights when the store closes.
We offer tote bags to avoid the use of non-reusable bags.

      Social responsibility

Marilyne Baril is a finalist in 2023 for the Employer of the Year award.
